Life is destiny. We are born to certain circumstances outside our control. We can’t  always predict the reasons  we  suffer or experience deep sorrow. What we have control over is  how we rise above the storm and how well we learn from the lesson’s life offers.

This book takes  the reader into a journey of what it was like to grow up in a large family in Havana Cuba after the Revolution. It deals with the  trials and tribulation of surviving  abuse and the scars it leaves  behind. It is also a story of survival and new beginnings as the family migrates to the United States.  The story unfolds further as Xiomara becomes a single mom at eighteen and with little resources takes her child to live in a commune in San Francisco. There she experiences the hippie life style and has profound experiences as she grows into adulthood.

Xiomara’s story exemplifies that overcoming adversity enhances our ability to gain resiliency and strength. It also validates the premise that true forgiveness is a gift we give ourselves. By releasing blame we gain the capacity to experience joy and happiness and  that leads us to gain a  richer perspective to all the good life has to offer.
